Formed Finance Birmingham with Birmingham City Council and has led the growth of the business from a Business Loan Fund of £10 million to £300 million through a range of funds and programmes both locally and on a national scale.Over a decade’s experience of CEO posts in regulated businesses including, The Exchange, Regional Stock Exchange and Finance Birmingham.Sue is passionate about the SME community and the role they play in the economy’s recovery and growth. A strong commercial focus and corporate experience has secured the support of both public and private sector initiatives.
|John Handley, Chief Investment Officer
An experienced Private Equity practitioner for over 20 years and winner of Midlands Dealmaker Awards four times with Bridgepoint (once) and LDC (three times).A seasoned Non Executive Director having held numerous board seats in a private equity and independent capacity during that period. Previously John was a Senior Director of LDC and currently chairs the Investment Committees of Finance Birmingham and CCF (Capital Creative Fund) in London. Since leaving LDC in 2005, John has worked on a wide range of SME initiatives both as a Non-Executive Director as well as supporting the growth of the Finance Birmingham portfolio.

Clive’s principal focus is on investing our debt and equity funds under management, whilst also managing a large number of the existing client portfolio.

|Ian Fairclough, Investment Director
Over 10 years of experience investing in firms of various sizes. Ian trained as a chartered accountant at PWC, in audit and assurance, before moving to the corporate finance department. Ian spent two years looking at acquisitions and internal investment at npower, before joining Midven Venture Capital – investing up to £500k in SMEs in the West Midlands region. Ian joined Finance Birmingham as Investment Director to work on a £9m debt and equity fund and a £56m mezzanine fund – providing finance to SMEs in the Midlands.
|Gerald Gannaway, Investment Director
A qualified banker with over 25 years Corporate Banking experience across SME, Mid Market & Large Corporate, and latterly Real Estate. Also with a strong Credit & Restructuring background, including managing a team of specialist Relationship Managers delivering bespoke financial solutions.
Gerald is responsible for identifying and delivering transactions meeting the objectives of the Collective Investment Fund and Land Remediation Grant Fund.

Andy helps to deliver the national AMSCI fund which is helping to strengthen manufacturing supply chains across the UK.
|Paul Halford, Portfolio Manager
Paul is a recent addition to the Finance Birmingham team, and is responsible for strengthening existing portfolio and strategic operations.
|Steve Hetherington, Tooling Investment and AMSCI Director
Steve oversees the national AMSCI fund which is helping to strengthen manufacturing supply chains across the UK.
|Kathryn Hoverd, Operations Support
Kathryn helps deliver the day-to-day running of the office, providing resources and administration for the expanding investment teams, as well as facilitating the range of business events.
|Marie Kelly, Investment Manager
Marie joined Finance Birmingham to work on the £24m Tooling Loan Fund. She has over 20 years’ experience of the banking and financial services industry, starting her career with HSBC then moving to Bank of Scotland Corporate working with the lead director on a portfolio of large corporate clients with turnover in excess of £25m. She then moved to Bank of Scotland Private Banking, leading the Birmingham office credit team. She holds the CIOBS diploma in Advanced Specialist Lending.
|Graham Mold, Investment Director
Graham is a qualified chartered accountant (KPMG trained) who joined FB in 2014 bringing over 30 years of experience of investing in, and working with, SMEs. Graham has spent 14 years in the VC industry. He has held several Fund Principal positions as well as Portfolio Director and Finance Director roles. He has also sat on numerous boards of investee companies.
Graham is married with five children, lives in Leicestershire, is a keen golfer and chef, and enjoys watching all sports.
|Stephen Murray, Investment Director
Stephen is an ex-Big Four Chartered Accountant with a background in banking, mergers and acquisitions and restructuring. He was previously at RBS, managing a team helping customers drive operational and financial business improvement and providing mezzanine and equity funding to facilitate growth. Prior to RBS, Stephen worked at KPMG in both the Transaction Services (providing financial due diligence to funders, investors and purchasers) and Restructuring departments (delivering restructuring actions that provide improvements to cash flow, profit & loss and the balance sheet).
|Sam Miller, Investment Director
Sam’s role is to originate, transact and complete SME debt and equity investments. Sam sits on a number of the Finance Birmingham investee companies’ Boards and works closely with the management teams to support their strategy to deliver an equity return.
|Nick Oakley, Senior Investment Director
Nick is a qualified banker, he joined Finance Birmingham in 2015 bringing over 30 years of experience in the corporate banking industry. From 2001, onwards Nick was Regional Head of Property Finance and Restructuring Teams for The Royal Bank of Scotland in the Midlands. He has significant experience of funding both commercial and residential property developers on a senior debt, mezzanine and equity basis
Nick heads up the Property Finance Team for FB and is primarily responsible for sourcing and evaluating new opportunities and developing the property funding portfolio.
Nick is married with two daughters and lives in Worcestershire, in his leisure time he is a keen golfer, cyclist and enjoys watching all sports.

Pauline has been with Finance Birmingham since its inception in 2010 and has more than 18 years experience in financial services. Pauline manages the day-to-day running of the team at Finance Birmingham.
